Christmas/Winter Break

Hi Co-op,

December is crazy and we have decided to take a holiday/winter break. We'll be getting back to the $16.50 baskets sometime in February.

For anyone interested in having a box during our break, Gregory's (bread) is allowing Granato produce to do a drop off every Friday at their bountiful location. You would have to pre-order through their site before midnight Monday. All you have to do is go to their website: http://utahbaskets.com/ and pre-order. They will deliver your basket on Friday morning at Gregory's wheat shop at: 920 South 500 West Bountiful, UT 84010

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year 2012!!

Luisa and Patti.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Co-op - Fall and Winter time

Hi Co-op friends!

Sorry we haven't updated the blog until now. You know how busy back to school season can be!

As per our email of a few weeks ago, we'll be giving Utah baskets a try for the fall and winter season.

Utah baskets or Jumbo Joe's produce baskets is a local produce service, very much like bountiful baskets. The advantage is that they offer pre-sorted baskets, which would make our jobs a lot easier during inclement weather. Yeah, neither Patti or I fancy sorting produce in her garage at below freezing temperatures ;)

We are switching to the pre-sorted baskets starting in October. We want to make sure that our test run is successful in case we have to come up with a plan B (cross your fingers). Delivery day for the Utah baskets is Friday, so please mark your calendars since we'll be switching from Wednesdays to Fridays.

We want to continue the co-op for as long as we can, so to make it as easy as possible we'll only be doing set bread orders from now on. We hope by now you've had a chance to try Gregory's bread and granola. Please send me your set orders by email. If there is a week that you may need to cancel or change your order, make sure you email me Tuesday night at the latest, as I'll be placing our bread order on Wednesday mornings.

Basket prices are still the same, bread went up a few weeks ago, I think all of you were informed of that change. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email either one of us.

Thanks co-op!

Poll updated

Thank you all for another wonderful Co-op Wednesday!
Hope everyone is enjoying their produce already. This basket was a heavy one! We have been really busy lately and we had not had time to update the blog poll, so Patti decided to ask our produce guy for his best deals this week. I think we got a log of good stuff (just got to figure out the best recipe for that Kale!)
Send in your recipes if you would like to share what you are doing to maximize the use of your produce, we would love to hear from all of you!

Poll has been updated so feel free to vote for your next basket and we'll try to get as much as we can based on those votes :)

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Cheesy Vegetable Soup

Hi Co-op!

Here is the recipe that I told some of you about. If you still have some of your vegetables from 2 weeks ago, this is the best way to use them. I made this on Monday and it was SO good!

This recipe comes from my dear friend Jen at Little Miss Penny Wenny who has a great blog about all things domestic.

The recipe is very forgiving, for example I used regular mustard instead of dry mustard, chicken stock instead of vegetable stock, one chicken bullion opposed to two. I didn't even bothered with the Parmesan cheese for garnish and this soup was amazing. Great for these rainy days :)

Granola

Hi Co-op!

As you know Gregory's gave us a sample of their granola last week; hope everyone had a chance to try it out.

I wanted to make a post about it for future reference. All bags are 3lbs.

Crunchy Granola: $4.62

Maple Vanilla Granola: $4.93

Almond Nut Granola: $4.93

Fruit & Nut Granola: $4.93

All the prices include tax and the price is pretty good considering that 16oz (1 lb) bags sell at the grocery store for about the same price.

See you all Wednesday!

Gregory's Wheat Shop Bread

Hi Co-op,

As some of you know, we will also be offering bread orders on Co-Op Wednesdays. The bread comes from Gregory's Wheat Shop in Bountiful. I will be calling each of you to get your bread order by Friday.

Here is a list of the different kinds of bread that Gregory's Wheat Shop offers, also a short description from Rebecca, who handles the bread orders at the Foxboro North Co-Op:

--JACK SPRATT'S: (Thin, whole wheat, low carbs/fat. Great for dieters, but kind of tastes like diet bread-- In my humble opinion!)

--CLINTON'S 100:(100% whole honey wheat.)

--GRANNY'S 100% WHEAT+FIBER:(100% honey wheat w/ extra fiber. Thicker slice.)

--GRANNY'S BOUNTIFUL HARVEST MULTI-GRAIN:(Textured, good taste, Scrumptious in a toasted turkey sandwich with avocado. A regular order for me!)

--GRANNY'S OLD FASHIONED ENRICHED WHITE:(squishy, yummy. What can I say? It's white bread...almost like dessert all by itself!)

--GRANNY'S DELIGHT SPROUTED WHEAT: ((whitish bread, squishy, yummy, causes less guilt b/c it has sprouted wheat in it! Yummy as toast, grilled cheese, french toast, or sandwich. Our family's #1 favorite!)

--CLINTON'S SOY BREAD: (Thin sliced whitish bread--made with soy flour. Great for toast or grilled cheese--Good very fresh for PB&J sandwiches)

--CLINTON'S 35% WHOLE WHEAT: (Very thin slice. Low carbs/fat. Yummy and squishy bread--great for kids' PBJ. Tastes fresh for several days.)

--CLINTON'S TEXAS TOAST:(Thick white bread. Great for french toast or Parmesan garlic bread)

--CRANBERRY BREAD: (Part whole and white flour with orange flavor and cranberries. (Holy Yumness! Great for a toast finger snack or quick breakfast w/ fruit. A kid--and mom--favorite!)

This bread freezes well if you want to order more than you can eat immediately. Each loaf is about $1.60 (great value for quality bread! plus you are supporting a local business).

Talk to you soon!

Luisa

How long is your opportunity in the coop?

Many of you have asked about the time length of your participation in the coop. Basic coop is 24 people and that is how the order is placed. So to have an order - we need 24 people. We understand there are all kinds of circumstances and wish to be flexible with you, so here are some details to help you see how this might work for you and your family:

1. When you sign up and pay the 33.00 on your first pickup, your trial is for two orders. If after those two orders, you wish to discontinue, we just ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can fill the spot from the waiting list.

2. If you are sick, or out of town and need to miss a week, please just let us know. We can always fill in with neighbors or people from the waiting list for that week that you will be gone.

3. As seasons change, so does produce. We understand that some will want to participate just until the summer, some will want to continue year round. We are flexible with this, and again just ask that you give us a heads up before you decide to discontinue.

Sample Produce Order

This is a basket that we received at the last pickup. It gives you a good idea of how much produce you might get and what type of items. Items ordered: Gala apples, Fuji apples, Kiwi, Oranges, Grapefruit, Pears, Bananas, Cauliflower, Baby reds, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Green Leaf lettuce, Zucchini, Avocado, Green Onions, Broccoli.

Welcome!

Hello Coop!

We are excited to be able to continue the food coop with you! As Shantell mentioned on the facebook group, I am taking over the coop for those of us in South Foxboro. This is a great opportunity to get produce, the same as they get at the grocery stores, only you aren't paying for overhead, employees or building costs. Also, with the bread, you are supporting a local Bountiful store, Gregory's, and the bread is amazing!!

So here are the details:

1. General Idea:
Every two weeks, the group will get a bulk order of fruits and vegetables. Also available to order is bread from Gregory's.

2. Date of Pickups:
Every other Wednesday we get an order. Next pickup is March 16.

3. Location Pickup:
Patti Cook's house. We will have the orders in the garage for your convenience.

4. Time of pickup:
This varies on when the delivery truck comes, but usually the time has been around 10 or 11am. You are welcome to come pick up your order at my house anytime until 3pm that day. If for some reason you need an alternate pickup time that day, please email/call/text/ me to arrange. Your children are welcome to come with you.

5. Cost:
On March 16, payment of 33.00 is required, plus any bread you order. Then every time after it will be the base 16.50 plus bread orders. Since we pay up front when the produce gets dropped off, this let's all of us be one payment ahead so we can pay for the following week. If for any reason, you decide to stop your orders, any money will be refunded as needed.

6. Payment:
Check only. No cash. One check can be made out to Patti Cook for both the produce and the bread or whatever combination order you have.

7. Keeping in contact:
We have a blog, where you can go and vote on the produce you would like to see in your group order. Whatever gets the most votes is what I will base the orders on. Also on the blog, we will post recipes of some things you can make with the produce we get. And, if you have Facebook, we will also have a South Foxboro Facebook group.

For any questions or concerns about the coop or the produce:
Patti Cook

For any questions or concerns about bread:
Luisa Hansen

We are so glad to have you on board! If you have neighbors or friends that would like to participate as well, please let us know. We are always looking for new people.

Take care!
Patti Cook
